This weekend we had thought about heading out of town for a few days, but then realized we were signed up to help at church on Sunday, so we thought that maybe we could leave after church and come back Tuesday or Wednesday....But with Hubbie's job and the big and bad Hurricane, he couldn't take any more time off than Labor Day. We were stuck at home, which was fine, because both boys ended up getting a nasty cold. I even had to stay home with Peanut on Sunday, because he was so miserable.
Our "local" zoo is a little less than a hour away and its a pretty sorry zoo...things don't change and it mostly has birds!!! But we do go about once a year for a little day get-away. Monday we woke up and decided to get out of town, so we decided to do the zoo thing and eat at our favorite spot in Columbia. We got there around lunch time and it was crowded. Hubbie and I never go during the weekend or on a holiday, so we were very surprised at the amount of people. We ended up seeing quite a few people we knew which is always funny...we always see someone we know from home up there! We stayed a few hours. Peanut did great. He sat, watched and ate. Bubbie didn't want to go to the zoo. He was exhausted, didn't feel good, I guess and was very anal about going through the alphabet and seeing an animal from the letter of the alphabet that was next in order... A- Alligator, B- baboon, etc..... Hubbie and I tried explaining to him that the zoo doesn't work that way. You just look, enjoy and then move on. He wasn't having any of that. Next time we're gonna make him a map of animals to look for and give him a pen to cross them off once we see each one. I think that will ease his Type-A tendencies!!! Eventually we gave him the map to the zoo and he was happy again. After we had used up all of our tokens and had seen the animals we wanted to see, we went to eat and then headed home. It was a long day and we were all glad to get home.

Looks like fun! The giraffe pattern on the train is cute!
Our zoo is like the same half moon shape as yours. How funny!
Looks like they had fun. The baby sure is growing fast!
We're waiting for a cooler day (without rain) so we can go to the zoo again; I think L and I are looking forward to it more than the kids! :-)
Bubbie wanting to go through the alphabet cracked me up. I read it to Matt and he said, "He's definitely his mother's child."
Glad you guys had a good holiday weekend and hope everyone is feeling better from the colds!
I love zoo time! And Penut is getting SO BIG! Wow that sure goes fast!
What a hoot about Bubbie!
Lots of blessings!
We loved the zoo there. I actually miss it sometimes. The zoo here is about 1 1/2 hrs away and is pretty nice, but we had the zoo in Columbia about memorized and the girls loved the "stinky cave" I especially miss the zoo at Christmas time, when you can go at night and walk through all the lights.
