Stephanie is hosting a Mr. Linky for your babywearing stories, pictures or tips for International Babywearing week. Head over, sign up and post your pictures or stories and you could win a Nest Sling or a Nest Hatchlings sling from Nonny & Boo.
I had never even heard of babywearing before I started blogging. Then I came across Stephanie's blog and she was carrying her youngest son. I thought it was the coolest, most awesome thing ever. I wasn't pregnant at the time, but we were prayerfully considering stopping birth control for good. I knew that if I did get pregnant, I would SURELY babywear. Once I did find out I was pregnant with Peanut, I asked Stephanie SOO many questions. She has been fantastic to answer all of them. I asked her her suggestions about what type of sling I should start off with and what positions I should carry Peanut in. I just couldn't believe that no one in town baby wore. When Peanut came I had 3 slings- a ring sling, a Hotsling and a pouch sling.
My next purchase will be a mai tai and another ring sling for the winter- and I hope to start carrying Peanut on my back. I haven't had an success with that yet(with the Sleepy Wrap), so I will continue to practice.
I was concerned when I started babywearing about whether I would need the stroller or if I would always want to babywear. I have found that there are times its more convenient to use the sling. I use it all the time when I have to pick up Bubbie from school and I need to hold his hand and carry his booster seat out to the car. I can slip Peanut into the ring sling and have one hand for Bubbie and one hand for the car seat. I used the Sleepy Wrap on our recent trip to the Apple Orchard.
I didn't think a stroller would do well on the hills of thick, wet grass and Peanut was WAY too young to be put in a flat bed wagon, so I did the front carry with Peanut facing out and he was fine the whole time we were there. He was able to chew on his hands and he would wiggle his legs and feet.
Babywearing is something, I am still sad to say, its not common around my home. I have seen 2 women baby carry in the last 18 mos.. I see a lot of "fake" slings in the store and I tried those and they STINK! It doesn't give you the closeness and they feel very bulky! You can't position them and the child the way you and the child want to. I am so thankful to have found Stephanie's blog and to be able to say I am a proud babywearing mama!

I started babywearing after finding Steph's blog too!! I am loving it and wish I had discovered it sooner. I'm the only one of my friends with kids, so I'm also the only that wears the babies. I'd love to try a Mei Tai, but I have to agree that the ring sling is my very fav. I've never tried a wrap either-that looks a little complicated-what kind is it? Did it take long to learn? Take care!
I see a lot of front pack carriers, but not too many slings. I have seen a few, and sadly, have heard one or two friends speak badly of babywearing (I stuck up for you though!). I used my mobi a lot when Blue first came home, but not much lately. I should try it again, but it is harder with him because he doesn't have the same head and neck control of other babies.
These are great photos! And I love hearing about babywearing stories!
Steph
I. LOVE! Daddy Babywearing!
Hello some how I found your blog looking for things on our sons birth defect esophageal atresia and im not sure how, anyways you have a great blog and I wish you the best.
Look at you rock in your different babywearing gear! I should enter a post too. Love it :)
Your pictures are beautiful. :)
I love the pattern in the first picture.
I can relate to what you wrote about babywearing not being the standard in your home. We had stopped wearing Brennan, for the most part, and then I won the Mei Tai. I could never get the back carry with the wrap, but I could with the MT, and so we find ourselves wearing him again. We've realized we have all missed it. It's a good feeling to have him that close again.
Your babywearing pics are great. It's so wonderful that your husband has joined in on the babywearing fun as well.
Found you on the Mr. Linky for the Adventures in Babywearing post. My hubby loves his brown Moby too! He thinks he looks like a Jedi! CUTE pics!
Not many people around here wear their babies either. One of my friends makes slings (The Etc. Sling), and chances are pretty good that if I see someone wearing their baby, they are almost always using the Etc. Sling. :)
So neat to know that I was" in" back then.....although our slings were not that great. You and your siblings were worn in a front back and then in a back pack back in the 70's and 80's. Glad you have had good experriences!
You guys look so great! Way to go to your hubby for strapping on that baby!
Lu, you have a beautiful family!
Such great pics! We had the stroller debate too and while Ive used it more since getting preggo again (G is 30 lbs!) I still prefer to have him in a carrier!
Babywearing is so awesome!!! I'm glad to see pictures, I've seen you around the blogo, sometimes at my blogs!! Great photo's and stories. It's great to see a hubby wearing. My hubby is a bit intimidated but getting better.
It's addictive isn't it? I have a ring sling, BabyHawk, and borrowed a wrap. If I ever have more children, I'll likely purchase more. I can't help myself.
I love the pictures. I realized as I typed my post yesterday that the only pics I have of us wearing Boo are the ones from vacation a few weeks ago(!). Hopefully next time (and hopefully there will be a next time) I'll do better about getting pictures.
Hey girl just catching up. What a beautiful post! I've been thinking about a Mei Tei too... for back wearing. So many people say they love them. Anyway if you get one let us know how you like it!
Great pics! I rarely see babyweraing moms either! so sad! The sleepywrap is great...hope to get one enventually!
Love your post and pictures. I love babywearing and have tried so many different carries. I've loved my Moby when my little guy was about that age too. :) I'm a mei tai momma though. I think you'll really love them.
