When I Grow Up......

You know, it occurred to me the other day that I am nearing 30 yrs old.  My body is different than it use to be (i.e. I can't bounce back after a baby like I once did!) and my outlook on God and the meaning of life is drastically changed for the better.  But yet, I don't FEEL like I'm anywhere close to 30 yrs old.  I still feel as though I'm a young twenty year old having to defend my decision of getting married and having babies at a "nowadays" young age.  Then it dawned on me that everything I want to do it life, are things that most of my friends could do or are doing, but they are anywhere from 5 to 10 years older than us... so they are at the spot to truly settle down in a home/town and hopefully in a career/job that is semi permanent.

We just aren't there yet.....  so when I grow up......

Splurge on: A great big farm house and land....LOTS and LOTS of land

Understand: How to love like Jesus did and but aside all fears, prejudice and judgement

Sleep:  A little bit more wouldn't hurt...but mostly with those I love....lots more cuddle days in the bed with a movie and books

Own: That great big farm house and ALL that land..... free and clear....no debt

Collect:  Beautiful paintings....not the classics but paintings that are beautiful and mean something to our family

Eat:  Good and real food...all the time....

Purchase: What we need, very little new

Rent:   Buy:  A vacation home...in mountains or at the beach.... to spend weeks at with family and friends

Give:  Unselfishly

Avoid:  People that are going to pull me down

Destroy: Hatred, bitterness, envy, strife

Retain:  Love, Peace and Patience

Fear:  In losing all that is important

Enjoy:  Find simplicity in life

Laugh:  A lot with my husband

Resemble:  All the ones I love, their best qualities

Drink:  More milkshakes with my boys

Grasp:  The Lord's love for me

What will YOU do when you grow up?  Won't you join me?

Wandering Mind

We left town in chaos last Friday morning.  The laundry wasn't finished.  Very little around the house was finished.  There were unfinished piles all over the house.  We went to a friend's wedding and it was a beautiful and special time to see the beginning of their marriage.  Hubbie and I enjoyed some one-on-one time with Buggy- that rarely if ever happens- so it was wonderful to see a little personality and to really be able to give him the attention he craves and deserves!  But it was a hectic and exhausting trip.....

We came home on Sunday desperately trying to seek some order in the chaos of unpacking 5 family members.  My mother is wonderful and sends home clean clothing so that I don't have laundry to do, but we still had unpacking and very hyper and exhausted boys.  I didn't know that Hubbie had to work that evening and we were all beyond exhausted.

Its now Thursday morning and the laundry has  yet to be touched.  Piles are still everywhere.  Now I have end of the month/beginning of the month stuff to worry about- grocery list, budget, bills- things that need to get done in a short amount of time, but once its done, its done for the month.  The house is chaotic... more chaotic than normal because my darling husband is STILL working on this project.  It was suppose to take a week or two... we're on week 5.  Oh my goodness.... when will it end?!

Hubbie's parents have been taking the kids on Wednesday mornings for a few hours so that I could go to Bible study or do errands and its been a huge blessing.  This Wednesday I had planned laundry, but ended up spending half of the time organizing our school year calendar and the other half on the phone planning photo shoots.  Nothing horrible about the way I spent the time, but I really wanted to knock out some of my household duties!

My husband does a GREAT job with helping out.  Laundry, dishes, bed time even cooking and baking.  He has no limits and doesn't matter what his day has been like, he's always very willing to help, but with this project, the household duties as well as three little ones care has been solely put on my shoulders and its exhausted!  Maybe thats why I have little to no energy here lately!

I told my husband this morning that usually when you have stuff that you need to do and don't want to do, you usually escape, right?!  HAHA!  So, I asked if we could escape this weekend!  Of course, he wants to escape without kiddos....which right about now (fighting in the back bedroom over a stuffed animal) sounds REALLY lovely..... but really, anywhere and with anyone would be fine!  ;o)

Another thing that has put a lot of stressers in the mix is the fact that everyone around town is gearing up for school.  Well...... not everyone!  Not us!  HAHA!  I haven't put together our goals for the year.  I haven't purchased all the materials I want and I just can't seem to find appropriate time to sit down and really do research and learn about everything out there.  I think I have information overload (so please don't suggest curriculum!) and just don't know which way I want to go.  I know the only way we're going to see what we like is to just use stuff and see, but I hate wasting the time, effort and money doing that.  I wish I had a crystal ball!  I have a bunch of stuff to use but just need to compile it all together and add some fillers..... anyway......

I guess I'm lacking a lot of time and energy!  Not that any of this will change once our school year actually does start.... but we are excited that we are officially in two homeschooling groups!  YAY!  I am excitedly looking over the activities and classes and things offered for the year!  Definitely makes things seems more real as I pencil in the field trips on the new 2010-2011 calendar!!!

So, if my blog is quiet more than normal, its because I really just don't have much to say other than the fact that I need to get my butt into gear!  Maybe I need a week away from my kids (which I know I couldn't do! miss them too badly!) to catch up and get some stuff accomplished!!

Thrifty Thursday ~ Recipe Week

In real life pen pal, Kristin, has been hosting Thrifty Thursday and I decided to join in today!  Today she is doing recipe week and y'all know I'm all about thriftiness and cooking as cheaply as possible!  I was going to do a cheap chicken pot pie, but can't find the recipe.  I actually didn't search through my recipes.....just too tired tonight!  I did, however, find my husband's FAVORITE cookie recipe.

I found this Peanut Butter cookie recipe YEARS ago while I was working at a doctor's office.  Hubbie and I had just gotten married and a patient that worked for the Dept of Agriculture came in with a peach cobbler and a recipe book( yes, we ate REALLY GOOD).  The book was FILLED with recipes using Georgia's biggest crops- peanuts and peaches!   I copied a few of the recipes that I thought might appeal to me and Hubbie and one of them was the cookie recipe.  I made the cookies one evening and Hubbie quickly named them his FAVORITE cookie!  They are quick, easy, cheap and SOOOOO good!  I've used these cookies for Christmas get togethers and bake and swap cookie parties because its SO cheap and makes SO many!

Peanut Butter Cookies

Mix the following:
1 cup of creamy peanut butter (natural doesn't work- I've tried!!!)
1 cup of sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon of vanilla

Use a melon ball scoop (or something similar) to place on a greased cookie sheet.

Cook for 9-12 mins for 375 degrees (WATCH THESE CLOSELY!!!  Each oven is SO different.  Our oven that I used when we first tried this recipe, didn't get as hot as our current oven!  You may have to play around with the time and temp!)

Yields 75 cookies

Total cost?  Hmmm..... lets break it down, shall we?!

1 cup of Peanut butter- about a dollar
1 cup of sugar- about a quarter
1 egg - about twelve cents
1 teaspoon of vanilla- NO CLUE!!!  ;o)

So rough total of these cookies would be less than $1.50!!!

Hope you enjoy!  And for more thrifty recipes, visit Bits and Pieces From My Life.

My Secret Obsession Part 2

Since I really do spend WAY too  much time drooling over stuff in Etsy, I figured I might as well share my favs again this week!  :o)

Isn't this a cute idea?!  Buggy chews and sucks on EVERYTHING, but his favorite thing is tags off of stuffed animals!  We are definitely in the teething phase!

There's that green again..... I love these fabric necklaces!  About a year ago I saw directions on how to do this yourself, but I haven't seemed to find time to make one yet!

I guess I'm on a necklace kick today, because this is so classy!  I like this a lot!  And this isn't the only color choice!  Yummy!

This mobile is SUPER cute!  It makes me want to have another baby..... HAHAHA!  Kidding......  well, sort of.....but not anytime soon, Lord willing!  But this is super cute for a mobile!!

Aren't these cool?!  Kinda reminds me of my FAV jewelry Brighton!  So chic!

Happy Shopping Drooling!

Potty Training

If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter then you know about our last few weeks!  Potty training has been what our world has revolved around since the Saturday before last.

Peanut pulled off his diaper, unbeknownst to me and stayed dry all afternoon, so I took him to the potty, he went and I was stunned... literally SPEECHLESS!  I didn't know whether to run and put another diaper on him, acting as if it had never happened or continue with this and go into full Potty Training Boot Camp mode!

Well, Hubs and I talked it over and I decided to go ahead and give it a go.  I cleared the schedule for a week and we would do it as consistently as possible for 7 full days.  Going nowhere (almost no where).  Wearing little to no clothing.  With the goal of ditching diapers for good.

Day 1, 2 and 3 were pretty rough.  I don't think its that he was resistant or that I was doing it for him.  He would go, but it was being at his beck and call every 30 mins (we set a timer) and then sitting in the bathroom while he fooled around for 10 mins.  That was the exhausting part.

Finally on day 4, he seemed to do even better and then each day has gotten a little easier.  He does enjoy visiting EVERY public restroom he can find, so we try to keep it a secret that stores have pottys unless he asks for one!  (HEE HEE)

During the first few days, I was trying to do no diapers at all.  Sometimes after nap and bedtime, he would wake up dry and others, he'd be soaked.  By day 4, I had decided to fork over money and buy pull ups for those two occasions.  A gal pal suggested to just use a diaper and worry about that potty training part later, so I did and so far, no issues.  Still no consistency... sometimes he's dry and others he's wet.  So we'll focus on that part later.

We do still have an issue of pooping.  If anyone has any advice, please tell me.  He goes poop on the floor or in his underwears on his way to the potty.  Its like he hasn't figured that part out.  As soon as it (excuse the potty talk) start coming, he freezes!!!

I am just completely amazed at my little guy!  I never would have DREAMED that he would be potty training himself at this age.  He is doing marvelous!  I took him to school last Tuesday and he went through the whole day dry!  I am SO impressed!  As a treat I took him to Sonic to get a slushie!  He was thrilled!!!

Since I potty train around treats and rewards, we are doing the m&m's.  To me its the cheapest and easiest way to promote good "remembering"!!!  2 m&ms and a small sticker for pee-pee-ing in the potty.  4 m&ms and a big sticker for pooping in the potty.  I printed up a Dora calendar for Peanut to stick the stickers on.  Once the days are filled with stickers, he will go to Target and pick out a small toy as a prize.  I think once we do that, we'll stop with the rewarding of daytime potty achievements and work on nighttime rewards.

Also, after the first few times of Peanut going potty and getting a reward, Bubbie began to say things like, "Do I get m&ms too?" and I knew this could be bad!  HAHA!  Who wants a 5.5 yr old regressing because his younger brother is getting m&ms and he isn't?!  (Please don't tell me about how I should explain Bubbie his age, etc. etc. etc.!!)Hubbie talked to Bubbie and explained that being upset about this really wasn't right.  But I knew I had to come up with something to keep the peace.

I gave Bubbie a choice of calendars for me to print out.  He chose a Cars calendar.  I put it right beside Peanut's calendar.  I told him that everyday that he helps occupy Buggy while I am with Peanut, helping Peanut with clothing, or for encouraging Peanut for doing a job- well done, he could get a sticker for the day too!  Once his calendar was full, he could also go to Target and get a small treat.  I thought this would also promote encouraging words from the older brother to the younger brother!  Something we need to work on!!!

So, all in all, its been a pretty good experience.  I've been super impressed with my second born baby boy who has become a big boy SO very quickly!  It kinda hurts my heart in a way.........

I truly believe that God orchestrated this whole "potty training thing at two-an-a-half-years-old".  I never would have started.  I really didn't think he was ready and I sure as heck didn't see any "signs" of readiness!  God knew I couldn't handle home schooling AND potty training this Fall/Winter!  Some people probably could do those two tasks with their eyes closed and one hand behind their back... not me!!!  God is good!

WOW!  Can't believe the month is almost over!  August in just a few short days?!  Really?!  I asked Hubbie yesterday "Where did the summer go?"  Kids go back to school in our area in the next 2-3 weeks!  Just seems crazy early!  Our summer sure has been busy, but yet, if I stop and think about what we've done, I can barely remember!  We had lots of fun times with friends and our family.  And for us, the summer won't be over in a few weeks, thankfully.  I haven't quite decided when we'll officially start the school year, but since Kindergarten isn't required, I am definitely not stressin!  I do need to find some time and get myself organized.  I need to make a list of things to get and make sure I have our goals written out for the year!

I've planned an easy, fresh food week in cooking.  After a weekend of fast food and bad-for-us-food, I am ready for some fresh veggies!!  We are finishing up our monthly menu and shopping.  I have a busy week of planning for next month and going back over receipts and seeing what we did well this past month and what we need improvement on.  There are a lot of things that I bought last month in bulk that we won't need to purchase this month (yay!) so I'm sure hoping this is a trend!  Sure would save me time, which here lately, is worth a lot of $$ in my book!

Speaking of our weekend, we went out of town for a friend's wedding and were able to spend some time with friends.  Nana and Pops kept the older boys and it sounds like they had a blast!  Peanut can't stop talking about Nana and "Poppy" (which I guess is their new pet name for their grandfather?!?!?!).  We decided to take Buggy, which was probably the best decision since Peanut is an "all hands on" kind of a child, but it sure did make the weekend a tiny bit more difficult.  Buggy was WONDERFUL, a real trooper and definitely a star of the weekend!  Everyone loved on him!  The part that made the weekend difficult is that we weren't on his schedule at all.... such as dinner several hours AFTER his bed time, etc. so of course, with Hubbie needing to be at places (he was in the wedding) and me wanting to visit with friends, it just made things harder with a cranky baby, but all in all, Hubbie and I so loved spending one-on-one time with Buggy.  He is such a happy and fun baby!  He chattered the whole weekend....so much so that I had to leave the wedding with him since he decided to let everyone know that he was THERE!!!  HAHA!  Our friend's wedding was gorgeous and so very special!  Unfortunately, I didn't take as many pictures as I would have hoped(holding a babe a lot of the time!!), which I'm kinda bummed about, but nothing I can do about that now!  It was a good weekend!  But we are TUCKERED!

Today we are spending the day at home today to rest.... doing laundry, watching movies, running up and down the halls butt naked(not me.... the potty training child!!) and playing with cars!  The rest of the week is filled with playdates with friends!  :o)

My Secret Obsession

Not sure why I've been silent about my secret love, but I decided to come out of the closet with my obsession for.....

What damage this little sign can do to my blow money every month......  I adore Etsy and can spend hours drooling over artsy jewelry, cute kids room decor, clothing and so much more!  And some of the prices aren't half bad..... of course, some of the things I see just give me ideas and I go  do the project on my own instead of paying someone else to do it.

Here are a few of my favs today....  If you get a chance, go check it out.  You seriously cannot NOT go look and NOT find something....

One For The Boys
How cool would this be?!  And use it for the boy's birthday every year.  Sure would save money on streamers!

Crocogator
I love this!  Probably couldn't make it!  I am in love with the color green.  Especially this shade.  This would be a great thing to decorate the boys room around... the color and fun design!  I am in love!  And the fact that I am saying I would WANT a "stuffed animal" in our house is saying a lot.  I have a love/hate relationship with stuffed animals!

Necklace
I'm on a green kick... what can I say!  I am in love!  Know what else I'm in love with... this necklace!  It speaks to me!  Deep, deep down, where I am the happiest.... its called a lovely thing called FALL!  Oh where are thou?!  :)  Wouldn't this look smashing with a cream color cardigan and some jeans... or better yet, a green sweater!?!

Key Rack
I love vintage stuff!  I wish I had an old farm house to fix up.  It would be clean, open and filled with vintage and cool funky pieces, but, of course, live able!!!  This whole Etsy shop- Half Pint Salvage- is totally cool!  And makes me dream... of building our dream home.

MunchMoney
How much would Peanut love this?!  He isn't earning money yet for chores or helping, but this is too cute!

Ok, so I'd better stop!  I could go on ALL.DAY.LONG!  Wishing and thinking and planning and buying!  :)

Something To Do

" Each person is given something to do that shows who God is."
1 Corinthians 12:7

As a Momma and a Christian, some days its hard to remember that God has given THIS JOB (this Mothering gig) for me to show others who God is.  Majority of our days, I'm begging that the neighbors don't hear the screaming or crying that is probably oozing out our walls.  And not just the kids....Why is it that I yell, fuss, fight, complain and do anything BUT portray an imagine of who  God is?

I am currently reviewing a book, that this verse was in, and it stuck with me this morning.....  I have the opportunity to show my children .... the people I come in contact with....... my husband..... who God is.  I make this my prayer today.

This is going to be an easy and short cooking week for this Mama!  We are super excited that a very dear and old friend of ours is FINALLY getting married!  The friend was actually a friend of my brothers during their basketball days and then once I started to work at the big "chick", he was a manager at the store, so he and I became friends.  Years later, when Hubbie and I started dating, the friend and Hubbie became buddies.... and the friend was a groomsman in our wedding.  Now, 8 years later, we are all still friends, even through schooling, job changes, babies and being in different towns.  (Gotta love Facebook!)  Hubbie will be in the wedding and I can't wait to be there to hug his and his new wife's necks!

So, before Hubbie and I get to go have some fun this weekend, we have a fun and busy week ahead!  Last week of pool playdate, summer school and a birthday party.  The boys will be staying with their Nana and Pops and they are super excited!  A fun weekend with their grandparents!  And they are most excited about going to church with Nana and Pops!  I still haven't decided whether we will keep Buggy with us or not.  Just not sure... .I'm not worried whether he will be taken care of well, but just hate to leave him..... but I'm gonna let Hubbie decide this one!  :o)

Hope everyone has a great week and check out what we're giving away on the review and giveaway blog!  Fun stuff!

Gosh Golly! 10 Months Today!

Bug-A-Boo, you are 10 months old today and I sure do wish I could freeze time.

You are such a precious, sweet and good babe.  God sure did know I needed you to keep me sane!

You are still in size 3 diapers.  Not sure what you weigh, but you have the cutest rolls on your thighs!

Still have the prettiest eyes, you could lose yourself in those crystal blue eyes.

Your hair is lightening up... I think its gonna be your daddy's shade.

You FINALLY got your first tooth last week!  FINALLY!  Momma is a little TOO happy!

I have already decided what birthday cake I am going to make you!  That day is fast approaching...

You are taking steps.  Here and there.  Nothing major, but you are definitely figuring out how to stand without holding on and getting braver everyday.  You get so tickled with yourself and give us your goofy grin.

You have been staying with your Daddy's parents every Wednesday so that Momma could go to Bible Study or get other things done, etc. and you have finally warmed up!  Yay!

You are still nursing 2-3x a day.  I could probably ween you with no issues, but I wanna hang on as long as I can.  Saves money on a bottle a few more times a day.  You drink 3- 4oz bottles a day and nurse 2-3 times a day.  You aren't a fan of being fed with a spoon too much.  You tend to steal the spoon and feeding you takes for EVER!  :o)  I have started giving you finger "dinner" foods and you like it.  I am still making your own baby food.  You love just about everything- fruits, veggies, oatmeal, granola bars, graham crackers, animal cookies and strawberry ice cream!  Once you turn 11 mos, we'll start introducing you to cow's milk!

You still suck on your two fingers- middle and index.  Doesn't want a pacifier and doesn't seem to like the idea of a sippy cup.

You still are taking a good nap once or twice a day.  If I put you down for a morning nap, you'll sleep, if I don't, I just put you down for afternoon nap a little earlier.  You are so flexible!  But can't let you fall asleep in the car, because otherwise nap time is OVER once we get home!  Eeek!

You are a little scavenger which gives Momma a heart attack!  Your big brothers still won't learn to stop leaving cups, food, small toys on the floor and you are FAST and get to those goodies a little too quickly!  Not sure what you've been able to get into your mouth.  You have gotten ahold of chocolate milk, Pepsi, fruit punch, a peanut butter/honey sandwich- thankfully we caught that one in time and a roach.  Yup!  You read right... a nasty, old, dried roach!  Yummy!  NOT!  Not sure which was worse... him eating it or me trying to fish out parts of it!

You got your first haircut this past month.  You did pretty good.  Daddy sat you on his lap and Momma had to hold your head a few times so that we could trim around your neck.  It looks better....  Your hair is CRAZY!!!

Your Daddy and I love you silly little boy!  :o)  Keep growing and being sweet!

Want a flash back?!  Here I was a year ago around this time!  Boy!  Does time fly!  Where has the year gone?!

Mothering Pits

We have entered the wonderful world of potty training!  Yes, I know, I'm insane!  What ever possessed me to think twice about the fact that Peanut was initiating this.  I should have looked the other way and put another diaper on him....... but being the kind of mother that I am, ( always the guilty one.... saying "what if?") I went with it.

I am in mothering pits....   I am not enjoying life right about that! HA!HA!  If you say that you've never entered the mothering pits, you are lying or I had better come live with you!  I am not finding joy in my circumstances.... being at home for a full week while I pick up poop balls off the floor, change sheets and wet underwears, try to keep Buggy from playing in the kids potty while I run down Peanut to pee-pee every 30 minutes, oh! and sit in the bathroom every 30 mins for about 10 minutes at a time when Peanut decides that he wants to play or switch pottys a half a dozen times!  Yeaaaaahhhhhh..... life is GRAND!

Seriously, I really SHOULDN'T complain, but I'm gonna!  Its difficult following around your 2 yr old ALL.DAY.LONG.  Maybe it'll help me burn off the carton of Breyers cookies and cream ice cream that I've been trying to polish off for the last week.  Yeah.... stress will make you wanna bury it with food..... rather.... bury it with ICE CREAM!

Peanut really IS doing well.  He is able to catch his pee pee and really doesn't have THAT many wet accidents.  I just gotta stay on top of him and THAT, my dear friends, is the MOST fun part of my day!  If you have ever taken care of this little stinker-pot-toot-head, you know following him around is a chore.

I think part of my exhaustion with mothering LIFE is the fact that my husband has been working on a side project for the last two and a half weeks.  This means that as soon as he gets home, or all weekend, he sits at the computer for another 40+ hours and WORKS after holding down a regular 40 hr work week.  Its tough on him AND on me.  I have had little to no help and I'm tired. This extra work will pay off..... but I'm ready for it to be done!  So, add to this potty training AND being in the house for a week with 3 crazy kiddos... I'm tired and worn out!  I probably look it too, because I feel it!

Oh well, tis life... it could be worse..... although, today, I was wondering, I usually say, my worst day at home is still better than my best day at work, but today, I sure did wish I could trade jobs with Hubbie and let HIM do the potty training, because it just isn't fair that I have to do this!  ;o)

Menu Plan Monday ~ Week of July 12th thru 18th, 2010

Monday Dinner- Chicken(in crockpot with C &B.B.S.) burritos with rice, chips and sides
Tuesday Dinner- 7 Layer dip with chips and rice
Wednesday Dinner- Meatballs and gravy with mashed potatoes, green beans and corn bread (never had last week)
Thursday Dinner- Leftovers
Friday Dinner- Family Night: Homemade pizza, breadsticks and "volcano" cake
Saturday Lunch- Leftover pizza
Saturday Dinner- King Ranch Chicken and rice
Sunday Lunch- Leftover chicken and rice
Sunday Dinner- Out

Well, if you had asked me two days ago, I'd say "We've got a busy week ahead!" but on Saturday afternoon, Peanut took his diaper off without me knowing it.  By the time I noticed, he had been that way for a while, stayed dry and he mentioned "pee-pee in potty" so I took him...... AND HE WENT!  I was stunned.  I went and talked to Hubbie to see what he thought I should do- put another diaper on him?  Or do we go with it?  Well, after much thought, we decided to let him continue to go diaper-less and go deep into the trenches of potty training our second boy.  So, we are in the middle of timers and running and lots of m&ms.  I've canceled all our plans for the week and all of us (except Daddy, of course) will be home all week.  I may take Bubbie to school this week, but I haven't decided.  The whole ordeal of potty training and trying to go places at the same time just don't mix for me.  Peanut seems to do better by being butt naked, so thats the way we will do it this week.  We will give it a really good go for one week and Lord willing, Peanut will be potty trained by this time next week.  My heart is in my throat and my emotions are on the edge.  Buggy is trying to take steps.  Bubbie is being extremely helpful, but having three little ones and having to stop what you are doing every 30 mins and be gone for at least 10  minutes at a time, its difficult.  Its one of those times I want to call my Momma and say "HELP!" or "TAKE ME AWAY!"  I don't want to do this, but I gotta..... I guess Peanut is ready, so I need to be too.

Bubbie's potty training experience was horrible.  It took a year.  He wasn't ready when he was started and it was just an awful and traumatic experience for me.  I would have never EVER suggested potty training Peanut at this age, but he seems to be doing really well... much better than Bubbie did at this age...... so we will go with it.  If you think about it say a prayer that I stay calm, the kids are cooperative and that Peanut gets this.

In other news, I have started a FaceBook page!  We have been able to get over 50 fans so far which is fantastic!  I am so appreciative of everyone suggesting friends.  Once we reach 100 fans, we will have a giveaway.  I will be giving away a Dave Ramsey Financial Peace course.  This course is what started Hubbie and I on our debt free journey.  The classes can be taken at any time- membership for life!  So, go over and "LIKE" Hyperactive Lu!

Meet Our Very Hungry Caterpillar

I don't think people believe me when I saw Peanut grazes throughout the day, because he is so little, but once you've kept him for a few hours, you realize very quickly that we have our very own "very hungry caterpillar".

One day he woke up from nap and within 20 mins he had eaten an oatmeal cream pie, 10 pepperoni, a slice of swiss cheese, a yogurt and was standing in the fridge, with his hands on his hips, saying "I would like....ummm...."  He finally settled on some cheese crackers and I told him NO!  Dinner was within 2 hrs and this kid would NOT starve to death!

This kind of thing happens DAILY... all.day.long.  In the mornings, I am usually getting the kids breakfast as Daddy is heading out the door.  Once the kiddos have all finished, they get their mouths wiped off and they can go play while I eat breakfast.  By the time I MAKE my breakfast, check on the kids in the playroom and sit down at the table to ENJOY my food, I have a little tiny two year old asking me for.... "Ummm.... me, some, Mom!"  Or "I would like... cantaloupe"!

Some days he can get 2 yogurts, 3 cheese sticks and asks for odd breakfast items such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  Other days he is fine with a cup of dried cereal....  there is no telling with this dude.

I try to limit him and keep him out of the kitchen.  He is insatiable...and of course, he hardly ever eats dinner. He is horribly defiant at times and has learned how to climb over the gates between the rooms.  I guess its time to invest in a fridge lock!!!  Fun times!

The Teething Biscuit

A few months ago, my darling husband called T-Mobile and was able to get a free upgrade for me.  I was given the choice of a few free phones and I picked this nice and handy HTC Dash.  It was my first smartphone and it was so nice to have all the spiffy and "new-tech" features.  I didn't fall in LOVE with it at first, but after a while, I did.

This past week, my Mother took Peanut for the afternoon, after school and on the same day, my in-laws had asked if Bubbie could spend the night!  It was perfect!  I would only have one child and Hubbie and I could have a nice quiet dinner....kidless!  So, I busied myself getting dinner ready and feeding Buggy early.  He was all ready for bed and I let him crawl around the house while I made dinner.  Well, our Buggy is quite the active one, even though he is only 9 mos... really 10 mos, I guess... this week.  Anyway, Buggy found my phone on a low-ish table near the kitchen and used it as a teething toy.  When I finally realized that he had it, he was crawling through the kitchen, with the phone in his hand.  I immediately took it away from him and kinda brushed it across my hips- to try and remove any slobber that might have gotten on it.  I put it on the counter top and continued about my business.  Shortly after I put Buggy down for bed, I went and got my phone to see where Hubbie was.  My phone wouldn't dial.  Then my Mom called and I could barely hear her.  It sounded as if she was in a tunnel.  I thought it was odd, but didn't think anything of it.  Once I hung up with Mom, I kept trying to call Hubbie, but the phone wouldn't allow me to do much of anything.  Then it hit me.... Buggy!!!

Sure enough, Buggy must have had a field day with my phone, because it dials like crazy when its turned on.  We've tried every trick in the book.  In a bag of rice since it happened.  System restart.  Anything and everything.  No luck.  I have been without my phone for a few days now and have no clue what or who I missed!  :o(

Today my sweet and dear husband took me to the T-Mobile store and bought this little handy-dandy phone for me.  Its taken me some time to "like" it.  Not because it isn't a nice phone.  Its an "app" phone which is pretty nifty!!  :o)  But, I miss my old phone!  We were able to get a DEAL on it - thank goodness!- because I HATE HATE HATE spending money on phones!  I will wait until the phone company gives me an "upgrade" or whatever needs to be done so that I avoid spending money on one.

Anyway, this week Buggy's first tooth appeared( front bottom right) so I guess the phone helped bring it through.  Pretty hefty price to pay for a teething toy, huh?!

What A Way To Encourage....

I came across this verse on a blog tonight.....  it speaks volumes to my soul.  Its no secret that the Lord has given me/us many things to deal with this year.  Not only with all the random sickies we had for a solid 6 months, but also quite a few other things that we have had to cling to Jesus and trust Him.  He knows the desires of our heart.  He loves us.  He loves our children more than we do.  He has a beautiful and perfect plan.... all these things are truths.  But we must cling to them even when we feel that the Lord is silent.

After months of pitching fits and crying and asking "why" (probably very similar to my 2.5 yr old) and pleading with the Lord to allow the "testing" and hardships to stop, I am finally starting to see the Lord's answer to my questions and pleadings.  I've been soaking up every Word that is spoken..... of course, life could be a LOT worse and believe me, I know that....but it still doesn't lessen the stress that its put on me/my family and when I come across things that breathes life and encouragement into my weary soul, I just want to shout it from the roof tops that I still serve a great and awesome Father.  Even when things look bleak.

And I wanted to share the verse here.... mostly just for me to have and remember, but if it offers any encouragement to readers out there too....

"Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

Hope it speaks to you in ways you need.
God bless you!

5K Running Plan

When my husband has a race coming up, he goes onto a website and "makes" a running plan.  It helps him achieve speed and gets his body acclimated for the distance.  He prints the plan out and sticks it on the fridge.  He knows what he needs to do- every day- so that he can accomplish his goal.

Since I began the Couch to 5K plan (off and on.... I hurt my ankle which slowed my running up) I wanted to know if there was a "plan" that he could schedule for me so that I would be ready to run a 5K this Fall.

Last night I asked him, " Can you make me a plan for a 5K this Fall?"  This was his response.....

I think I am gonna hurt him.....

Peanut and the Two's

Our second born son is now two and a half.  Someone should have warned us what the terrible twos are really all about, because we missed that memo.  Bubbie didn't have as many "moments" from two to three as is younger brother does! Boy!

He keeps us VERY busy!  And he sure does add another element of fun, laughter and cuteness to our day to day life, though.  He could get away with murder if he looked at you just right- with those puppy dog eyes.  I have a hard time punishing him sometimes, because of his "cuteness".  I must admit though, here lately, I have had NO trouble punishing this "stinker-pot-toot-head".  Oh my!  He has been so B-A-D!  I was reminded by his MDO teacher that he isn't B-A-D, he is two years old and very VERY BUSY!  I haven't quite learned how to be a step ahead of his mind.  We have gates EVERYWHERE and child proof door handles all almost ALL our doors, but yet, he is always breaking them, climbing them, learning how to maneuver between obstacles.  Just WAY too smart for us!

Speaking of smart, I guess we didn't realize Peanut was just as smart as his brother, but he is!  Oh my!  He is so smart!  He has been doing the alphabet for a few months and is now recognizing letters on buildings and spelling them.  Once we tell him what the word sounds like, etc., he's memorized it.  He also walks around the majority of the day with a puzzle of the united states.  He memorizes the name of each state and takes it apart and puts it back together..... over and over and over again.  He loves to climb up in your lap and you read him a book.  He enjoys pulling random books off the shelves at the library.  We usually come home with one or two that I didn't pick out.  This past week he chose a book about "couping with divorced parents".  HAHA!  What was so funny about it was that I didn't realize it until one of the kids brought it to Hubbie to read!  HAHA!  It was HILARIOUS!!!  That stinker, Peanut!

Even though he is busy, he is still a snuggle bug.  His MDO fight over him and are already requesting that he be in their class in the Fall.  He gives great hugs and kisses and asks you to "hold you".

Peanut is not being potty-trained!  ;o)  But he does have a love relationship with the potty!  We got him a "frog" child's potty about 6 months ago to just sit in the bathroom until he started to make comments about.  After he goes potty in his diaper, he says "Pee Pee in Frog!" so he knows what he's suppose to do in the potty, but usually just sits!  Although, one Tuesday, he stayed the day with Nana and he pee-pee'd in the potty over at her house!  WOO HOO!  Go Peanut!  But, I am NOT holding my breathe nor am I trying to force him into it.  It WILL happen and I have NO desire to start this yet!  My Daddy is sweet to remind me that no one goes away to college in diapers, so don't worry!!!

Speaking of pee-pee and diapers, Peanut and Buggy are in same size diapers.  Buggy weighs 18lbs and Peanut weighs 25 lbs.  We definitely have a "Peanut".  He is wearing most of the clothes that he wore at the end of the Summer last year.  Some 24 mos outfits and a lot of 2T stuff.  Most of the clothing that Bubbie wore at this age are too big!  He(Peanut) has started to slender out and loose all that baby "pudge" and lengthen up a bit.  He has a long torso and is wearing size 5 and 6 shoes/sandals.

He loves Curious George, Dora, Diego and anything else his brother makes him watch!  I do owe WordWorld a huge "thank you" because that show taught my child the letters!  That show and his biggest brother!

Peanut eats ALL DAY LONG!  He is like a hobbit!  He eats breakfast, says "All Done" and then two minutes later he is asking for fruit or crackers or cheese or pepperoni.  I give him a banana, he finishes that and then asks for cantaloupe.  This goes on for HOURS!  Its insane!  We don't know what to do.  He chooses VERY healthy things to eat, but I am constantly in the kitchen and never able to do much of anything else until I say "NO MORE FOOD!" and it hurts his feelings!  UGH!

Lately Peanut's vocabulary has been exploding!  All of the sudden he's realized that there are words and he can say them!  We love it.... most of the time!  Peanut hasn't learned to say things ONE TIME, but over and over and over again... even though someone has answered or responded!  Oh my!  This child can be exhausting..... but so so so so cute!  And precious!  And busy!  And smart!  And happy!

He loves his new church and has started learning memory verses.  He is like a sponge.... waiting to soak up anything!  And we are thankful that he asks to go to church daily!

His favorite people right now are Chloe/Emma who he thinks that we are meeting each and everytime we have a playdate or go to the park.  NO clue why!!!

Peanut has begun to say "No" and "Why" ...and being very stubborn..... oh me, oh my!  And my once fantastic sleeper has begun to be....what else.... a stinker-pot-toot-head!!!  ;o)  We are being consistent and after 3 or 4 days, he is utterly exhausted and falls asleep anywhere and at anytime and sleeps A LOT!  HAHA!  We are confident that this will be a phase and continue to put him down for rest, because his little body needs it so badly!  In the meantime, pray for my sanity!!!

Peanut, we love you and so proud of all your achievements... no matter how small and trivial.  Keep being that busy, busy, stinker-pot-toot-head!  We wouldn't want it any other way!

Happy July everyone!  I hope everyone had a great weekend celebrating America's birthday!  I know we did!  The food, fun, fireworks, family- everything was great!!!

I have a yummy week planned for our family!  This will be our first full week of my month-long menu.  It took me about a week of blog and cookbook searching and planning to get a list of meals I wanted to feed my family.  Then, I printed out a month long calendar (from Google) and began to put meals on days of the week.  After doing ALL that.... I had to search my cupboards and figure out what we had left, what we needed for dinner meals, etc. Once the dinners were planned, I have a pretty simple lunch and breakfast items that we eat every month so I just added those items and my grocery list was finished!  Then last Thursday I went to 2 of the 4 stores(Sams, Wal-Mart, Publix and EarthFare) with my month long grocery list in hand.  If I hadn't run out of time, I would have gone to the last two stores too.  On Saturday, we made the last two stops and finished up our grocery shopping for the month!  Man!  I had forgotten how time consuming it could be and how daunting the grocery bill comes out to, but guess what?!  I, Lord willing, don't have to do it again for a whole month!  Woo Hoo!  Of course, we will still get our next stock-up of fresh milk from a nearby dairy in about a week or so and then I set aside a little bit of money every week to stock up on fruit and any veggies that we may need.  Hopefully I planned appropriately.  So far, so good!  :o)

Oh and I posted the yummiest cobbler recipe here!  Check it out!

Happy eating!!  And for more menu planning ideas, visit Laura here.

Happy Fourth of July! 2010

I hope everyone has a wonderful day celebrating America's birthday!

My family and I are so thankful to live in this great country and no matter what happens to our personal freedoms, as Christians, we can be secure in the knowledge that we will always be truly free in Him!  And no one can take that truth away.

A New Family Member?!

Looky-Looky!

So excited to welcome the newest member to the Hyperactive Lu household!

Maybe I should name her because we've been waiting and planning and wishing for her... maybe as long as some people talk and wait for a baby?!

My dear sweet and overly-tired husband drove up to a nearby town to pick this baby up and took Bubbie with him.  They had a fun date afternoon despite getting lost and being stuck on the interstate due to a wreck.

The best part about this freezer is that it was cheap!cheap!, found on craigslist and definitely in the budget!

What a help this will be since we are beginning to get back on the once-a-month-grocery shopping bandwagon!  I think I am in love already!  All my meats, cheese and veggies are now nicely tucked into it!

It sure does look pretty in our laundry room!  Hubbie said it makes us look "grown up"!

Still In Suspense? Part 2

First part, here.  Second part, in this new way of maintaining my sanity when it comes to feeding my family, is to go back to once a month menu planning.  I did this for a long time last year and it was definitely nice when the baby was born.  I guess we stopped doing this around the first of the year.  Just the amount of work and effort it took(and takes) is insane!  HAHA!  I had forgotten how involved it could be.  I didn't want to feed my family the "same boring stuff" because then none of us would want it and we would be tempted to eat out.  I wanted new things... things that we have seen and want to try and some variety.  I think that is what we liked the most about E-Mealz.. the variety and "newness" so I need to make it a priority, when planning our monthly menu, to add new and exciting menu items.

Well, after researching every cooking blog known to man (haha! of course not really.  just about 5-6 of them) and keeping in mind one of our main goals - saving money and simplicity- I have successfully finished with our menu for the meals of July..... after THAT much work, I need a drum roll.  PHU-LEASE!  ;o)

Now the big part comes....  making the grocery list for the month.  I've done it before and I know I can do it... just the task is a tedious one.... making sure I don't miss any ingredients, etc.  One of the biggest reasons for doing the once a month menu planning, once a month grocery shopping trip, etc. is to simplify.  I love couponing and I will continue to do it, but I need things organized and right now, this area of my life isn't.  I have so many things I want to do and so many things that need to get done, I just don't want to spend the majority of my free time looking up deals, printing off coupons and heading to every store in town.  If you do the coupon game right, you can do AWESOME, but for me- I have other things that take priority over that and thats just the way I've decided to do it for now.  Hopefully in a year, I can get back into it with lots of passion and save oodles of money.  My idea is that the less you walk into the grocery store, the less money YOU WILL SPEND.  I don't care if its just to pick up a few sale  items, you are spending money ALL THE TIME.  It gets on my nerves.  I know these things will get eaten and we saved money on them in the long run, but its exhausting and it takes up valuable time.  All this is after a TON of thought and comparing prices with coupon deals, etc.  It just isn't worth the work or time to me at this point....  when I have small children.  I think I will continue to follow Publix BOGO free sales because, with coupons, those are REALLY good sales, but its gotta beat Sam's bulk prices, which after doing several hours comparing prices to SALE PRICES with coupons, its hard to beat bulk prices.

More on the bulk pricing next....

The First Words....

Buggy's first word was uttered on July 1st.  It was one of the most precious sounds I've ever heard "Dadadadada".  He did it once in the morning, but the big kids were - get this- being loud, so I kept repeating "Dada" to see if he would say it again.  Of course, he did and guess what? the big boys were being super loud, so I just went about our day hoping he would say it again.  Well, that afternoon after nap, he did.  And he said it over and over again.  Followed by "googoo ga ga" and all sorts of other cuteness babyish sounds.  I was beginning to wonder if he would ever make sounds!  He is surrounded by TONS of sounds all day long.  Its always funny when we drop the big boys off somewhere, immediately Buggy starts making noises in his carseat.  Its like he can't get a word in while the brothers are with him, so the first chance he gets, alone, he talks!

Hope I get a video of his cuteness!  Way to go Buggy!

Thrifty Thursday

I decided to join in on Kristin's Thirfty Thursday this week and give a little piece of money saving goodness.

This "tip" is probably not news to anyone, but Staples does an amazing job keeping up with the trend of couponing and getting things for free, etc.  I began to "work" the Staples curricular back in January.  I had seen an ad in the paper one Sunday and I was AMAZED and how much "stuff" I could get for a dollar or less sometimes after rebates.  The system works very similarly to Rite Aid, which I like better than CVS. (With Rite Aid, you get sent an actual check and don't have to fool with ECBs and only spending the money at the store, etc.)  Rite  Aid and Staples both send you checks (they are slightly different so make sure and do the research/read the fine print) and you can deposit those into your bank account, so its really like you are getting "something for free".  Staples not only has rebates but also a reward systems too. (Again, do your research- they are different!)

Staples Reward program allows you can recycle your print cartridges and get $$ back.  When you sign up for a Staples Reward account (free, of course!) and go into the store to purchase a new print cartridge, bring in your used one and you'll automatically get sent a check (last week it was $3, but its gone down to $2, started on July 1st) in the mail.  It makes my normally $15-$17 print cartridge a tiny bit cheaper!  Last week I went into Staples with my $4 rewards rebate check and bought an ink cartridge that was $17.50, used my $4 off and in about a month I will get another $3 check in the mail and I can use that on another purchase.

At the beginning of the year, I went into Staples and purchased things that we already needed and used- notebook paper, printer paper, pens, paper, etc...  normal office supplies, but at a cheaper price.  Like I said, Staples has two different ways of saving and earning money and the Thrifty Couple does a great job at advertising the best deals and what to do, where to sign up, etc.  And I'm sure many other blogs also give the low-down weekly.

Because of Staples awesome deals, we are stocked up on envelopes, pens, printer paper and a few other goodies that I was able to get for free.  Its so nice to not have to worry about budgeting for those items!

Happy Saving and Shopping!
